I didn’t speak Japanese, but they kindly guided me through a translator. They directly helped with the difficult parts, let me practice several times until my work turned out perfectly, and praised me a lot, which gave me confidence. It was an amazing experience, truly worth every yen. I highly recommend it!

Teruyuki is a wonderful host! This tour was our favorite part of our japan trip. Ayabe is a much needed reprieve from the bustle of Kyoto and Tokyo, and we enjoyed learning about the art of washi paper and then making our own! Pounding mochi was so much fun too, and we got a wonderful lunch which catered to our dietary restrictions! I am recommending this tour to my friends visiting Japan!

This tour was more than we ever imagined. Set in the beautiful mountainous countryside of Ayabe and led by our wonderful guide, Teruyuki, this was a truly unique experience. Learning about the traditional methods of making Washi and Mochi was made more special by having the hands on experience. Not only did we learn about these amazing products,Teruyuki shared his knowledge of this area and of Japanese culture in a very informative and entertaining way. If we had done nothing else while in Japan other than this we would have gone home happy.

Discover Kyoto's Exquisite Culinary Workshops

Kyoto, a city that effortlessly blends tradition with innovation, offers a wide array of culinary workshops that cater to both amateur cooks and seasoned chefs. These workshops are not just about learning how to cook; they are immersive experiences that provide rich insights into Japanese culture and heritage. Whether you're eager to master the art of sushi making, perfect the delicate balance of flavors in kaiseki, or delve into the intricacies of Japanese sweets, Kyoto provides the perfect backdrop for enhancing your culinary skills.

Unleashing Creativity in the Kitchen

Food workshops in Kyoto go beyond the conventional cooking class. They invite participants to engage with food as an art form, often integrating local history and traditions. For example, during a sushi-making workshop, you not only learn how to select fresh ingredients and prepare the perfect sushi rice, but you also gain an understanding of the etiquette and cultural significance of sushi in Japanese society. Similar experiences await in workshops focusing on making wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets that are as much about aesthetics as they are about taste. Create delicate confectionery that reflect the seasons, a cherished aspect of Kyoto's food culture.

An Authentic Taste of Kyoto

One of the highlights of joining a culinary workshop in Kyoto is the chance to use local ingredients sourced from the region’s famed produce markets. Depending on the workshop, you might find yourself exploring Nishiki Market, selecting fresh vegetables, and learning about the importance of seasonality in Japanese cuisine. By using locally-sourced ingredients, these workshops provide a true taste of Kyoto, allowing participants to create dishes that reflect the city’s culinary identity. From dashi, the quintessential Japanese broth, to yuba, tofu skin commonly used in Kyoto cuisine, you'll have the opportunity to work with ingredients emblematic of the region.

Kyoto's culinary workshops deliver a unique blend of education and enjoyment, perfect for individuals who appreciate food both as nourishment and a cultural experience. Engage with local chefs who generously share their knowledge and passion for Japanese cuisine, and leave with more than just recipes – but memories and skills that last a lifetime.
