You will always picture something cute when you hear the word bento. Your packed lunch might be designed with characters from an animation or a comic book, beautifully arranged in order and a feast for the eyes. Bento, or packed lunches, is a convenient way of preparing your meals to take to school or work and have been a staple in Japanese culture since the early days.
In this cooking class in Tokyo, you will learn how to turn Japanese animation into boxed bento lunch using the fresh ingredients of the season at a kitchen studio in Yotsuya. First, sip on a refreshing drink before rolling up your sleeves to get prepared for cooking character bento (Kyara-ben or Charaben). And then, the lecturer will teach you all about Japanese home-style bento box and its playful twist, with the help of handy new gadgets and old style Japanese tools. You will end your experience with a recipe that you can use to recreate back home.
