Japanese Brown Rice Sushi Making Class

If you love sushi and also care about making healthy food then this class is perfect for you!

Sushi is enjoyed all over the world because it is fresh, healthy, and delicious. In Japan, it can be very affordable too. Making sushi is a truly specialized skill; sushi chefs spend their careers honing the artform. Despite the fact that we normally see sushi that’s made from white rice, it can also be made using brown rice, an even healthier alternative that’s equally as tasty. In this Japanese Brown Rice Sushi Making Class in Tokyo, you’ll learn the skills required to make fresh and healthy sushi at home using genmai (Japanese brown rice). By opting for a healthier base, your sushi will be healthier overall!

Learn how to prepare your very own healthy sushi during this cooking class in Tokyo, making inside-out maki roll sushi as well as traditional authentic thin maki rolls. This course also teaches you how to make easy and tasty temari sushi using delicious hand-pressed Japanese brown rice. While you are learning all of this, you’ll have miso soup and green tea to keep you going. Your instructors are twin sisters (Ayumi and Shihomi) who worked as expert sushi chefs in Geneva, Switzerland for three years and Itamae in Tokyo for seven years. This is an incredible accomplishment as two female chefs are extremely uncommon in Japan.

Experience Location:

Meguro: The inner south area of Meguro has a quaint local community that’s central enough, but not quite in the thick of chaotic city life. Meguro Station is conveniently located between Shibuya and Shinagawa on the JR Yamanote Line and is also intersected by the subway, making for a considerable transit hub to well-connect this residential area. Surrounded by a cluster of restaurants and bars which trickle down through Meguro Dori Street, cherry blossoms line the canal along Meguro River, a popular spot for hanami season in spring. Follow the river to the west and you’ll end up at the trendy bars and hipster cafes of Nakameguro, where the ward stretches as far as Yutenji and Tokyo’s little Europe in Jiyugaoka. Meguro is home to 500 Buddha statues in Daienji Temple, as well as the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, alongside the much more unusual Meguro Parasitological Museum.

Meeting Location and Time:

The meeting point is the Central Gate of JR Meguro Station. The meeting time is 11:50 a.m. The class takes place at the chefs’ private home in Meguro

  1. Healthy Brown rice sushi of Tuna and Salmon making course

The healthy rice sushi experience was one to not just remember but to carry in our hearts as we didn’t just experience 2 welcoming chefs but also 2 friendly, warm and open Japanese women who showed us their culture in their lovely home. They have the professional experience to teach you many dimensions of the sushi making (from history, to all the varieties to the preparing and some tips how to eat it for maximum taste with every bite). They master English in a way that I didn’t hear in any other place during our 2 week stay (their foreign partners and living abroad are the source for this I assume).
    Reasons to choose this class:
    -Warm, friendly and open teachers
-2 teachers instead of 1 for a good price
-Very detailed information about sushi but also Japanese culture (if interested)
-Nice photo to take home and recipe
    -Fluent English communication

Thank you so much Shihomi and Ayumi for giving us this experience!!!
